Friend Friday: Finding the Balance.

Katy_Rose1 of Modly Chic has been hosting Friend Friday for a while.  I've only just started joining in.  It's nice to have a ready made set of questions for a relaxing evening of blogging and to get to know a lovely bunch of bloggers from all over the world and all walks of life.

This week's topic is Finding the Balance between blogging and 'real life', if the two can really be so precisely separated.  I know that I've blogged about this kind of question several times here at SSG but I like revisiting the question of why I blog every once in a while.  Life changes all the time and so do the reasons one blogs and the context of one's blog in their current circumstances.

1. When it comes to prioritizing your life, in what place does blogging fall?
Writing my blog is currently in pole position with regards to how I spend my down time.  Sydney Shop Girl is a personal blog that is my record of my life and thoughts, its ups and downs (and killer purchases).  I almost always come away from doing a blog post with a smile on my face and good feelings in my heart.

2. We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you do have to be as productive as possible?
I only blog when I really feel that what I have to say is going to come out easily.  If I have to sit in front of my laptop waiting for inspiration to hit me, I know it's not going to be a good blogging moment.  It's better for me to just step away from the keyboard and go out and live some life that is worthy of a blog post.

3. Have you discovered any short-cuts that makes blogging easier or more time efficient?
I've found joining blogging groups invaluable.  Topics like these are a snap.  The questions are there for you, all you need to do is answer them.  There are all sorts of blog hops out there.  Rewinds where all you do is post a link to a post you've already written, photo topics... I'm still discovering all the possibilities.  A bonus is being able to share your blog with a wider audience and to discover new reads and friends.

4. Do you have an editorial calendar or something similar that helps you plan ahead?
Not really.  I'm a bit random.  Though I do try and do my book review posts during the week.  I sometimes have nothing else to talk about during the week and I find reviewing a book almost always gives me inspiration to go off (in a tangential manner) into a few paragraphs about my life.

5. If time wasn’t an issue what you would be doing on your blog/for your blog that you aren’t doing now?
Cue a dream sequence.... If I had more time......

I'd take better outfit photos.  But to be fair, I'm not really a fashion blogger.  The whole idea of my outift posts is that I'm just a normal person wearing clothes and accessories from her wardrobe.  Often with lots of repetition.

I'd go off and explore the world and share it with my blog readers.

  1. Great answers, SSG! And you're so right about blogging groups - they're like free and instant inspiration! Why didn't I think of that one....:)

  2. Great answers :) I like that you pointed out that Groups like this are a good starting point to getting started and being more organised!! Better outfit photos are my area for improvement too.

  3. Hi
Great post SSG, and it is so funny...
We are all the same girls "traveling" around the world each day commenting on the same blogs:)
    I love our community....

    Have a great day:)

  4. LOVE your answer to number five- the second part, especially. :) I want to hear about your explorations!

  5. I love the fact that most bloggers write their posts randomly rather than using an editorial calender. I think it keeps it more fresh and spontaneous. Being too organised about it takes the fun out of it.

  6. Once again your list inspired me to to a blog post- mine is up this morning

  7. Great answers! I'd really love to take more OOTD pictures too, and if you travel the world can I come too? We could meet, you're over a day's flight from where I live!

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment. I'm having trouble importing comments from Blogger right now so using Disqus or sending a tweet would be your best bet. X
