Friend Friday: Vacation.

Well, I'm just home from my time of fun in the sun so I'll be able to answer Modly Chic's questions from this week's Friend Friday from recent personal experience.

1. When it comes to packing for vacation what’s your mantra?
  • If I don't pack it, I can buy it when I get there.
  • Double bag everything liquid.
  • Bring your own toothpaste because sometimes toothpaste in foreign countries tastes strange (how old am I again?).
2. What are your must packs?
  • Spare zip lock bags.
  • One 'dressy' outfit in black and a pair of black flip flops.
  • Noise cancelling headphones for the plane.
  • My Kindle.
  • My running shoes - the down side is they take up so much space.  Must invest in those light weight versions one day.
  • Bath bombs or bath tablets.
  • My DSLR and iPhone - for all those blog and facebook moments.
3. What are you happy to leave behind?
  • A shower cap, and that's about it.  Honestly, I could bring the whole house if I could.  But I do know most hotels have pretty serviceable plastic shower caps in their bathrooms.  The rest of the toiletries are a bit hit and miss.
4. Any packing secrets that help you get everything into one suitcase?

  • I'm not the best person to ask (see my answer above),  But I try to use travel sized toiletries.
5. Beach reading… what are you taking with you to read in the sand?
  • I managed to read novels on a pretty wide range of topics this holiday.  Usually I like to include one travel memoir, one more hard hitting book and a couple 'easy page turners' from my favourite authors.
  • It's so easy with Kindles!!!!
  • I read 'The Foremost Good Fortune' by Susan Conley, 'The Secret Holocaust Diary' by Nonna Bannister (look out for my review on this blog on Monday), 'Summer and the City' by Candace Bushnell and a short story by Plum Sykes.

  1. Welcome back and I hope you enjoyed your vacation! I'm really looking forward to my three weeks in Greece in the end of August!

  2. Great answers SSG and your holiday memories are still fresh in your mind... THink I need a kindle for sure. xx

  3. LOVE these tips!

What's the Plum Sykes short story that you read??! Is it a new novel of hers?

  4. M: the short story was called Oxford Girl, it was a Kindle single.

    SSG xxx

  5. Isn't a Kindle just the absolute best for travelling??

Sounds like you had such a special holiday.

  6. haha don't bring the whole house! Good idea about the double bagging though, I've had that accident :/

  7. I'm with you, if you don't pack it, sometimes it's best to just purchase it at your destination... & also agree about the toothpaste. lol
