The Thoughts Of A Friday Night Football Widow.

I don't know where the week has gone, but it's gone.  Done and dusted.  I've finished reading a book I never thought I'd finish, found some items of clothing that were previously proving elusive and I had enough coin left over from the transaction to restock the biscuit jar.

That was the executive summary.  I've got the rest of the night to elaborate on account of my football widow status so here I go....

On the book front, I know my book reviews have been a bit patchy of late but I got stuck on Michael Connelly's The Lincoln Lawyer, for months actually.  I just couldn't seem to finish it.  Anyway, I've read it, flicked to the last page on my Kindle the night before last in fact.

Because it's taken me so long to finish it, I'm finding it hard to do a book review on it.  So I'll be brief.  Mickey Haller is a defense lawyer in LA who does most of his business in his Lincoln sedan(s).  He is given a case that promises to be very lucrative.  It involves the son of a wealthy family accused of murdering an aspiring model / waitress.  Mickey is also battling through a divorce and generally trying to keep his head above water in an industry where the line between right and wrong is so blurred it doesn't seem to exist anymore.  The wealthy client is not the clean cut innocent he appears to be and soon manages to get some dirt against Mickey that effectively gives the client control over his lawyer.

Justice is finally served to the client but there are twists in the plot and threats to lives that keep you guessing and trying to picture Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Phillipe and Marisa Tomei in their roles in the film version.

I'm currently back to chick lit on the Kindle.  There's something soothing about the dramas of fictitious peoples' relationships on the printed page.  It's less confronting than reality television to be honest and kinder on your brain cells.

A few days ago I was complaining bitterly about how Target decided not to restock with their fabulous T shirts from last year.  Those round neck Ts were perfect.  The had a wide waist band and were long enough to not ride up during the day at work.  They were made of a thick, front loader and iron friendly  mix of cotton and other things and they were well priced.  I regret not buying 20 of them at the time.

But I digress, after having no luck at Target this year, I had to scoot over to the competition (Big W) and try my luck there.  I remembered that Nikki at Styling You recently mentioned the Emerson label at Big W in her post about fashion on a budget so I thought I'd follow up on this myself.  Well, Nikki, you're right.  I think Big W is onto a winner with Emerson.  I found my work appropriate Ts for the princely sum of $8.96 each.  Just as well I got there when I did because the smaller sizes were already in short supply.  There are both scoop and V neck versions and the Ts travel way past the waist.  I will be putting a few to the front loader and iron test this weekend.

Consider apres - laps at the local pool snacks are sorted for the rest of 2011.

Last weekend, SSG Manor was thrown into a crisis of epic proportions.  Yes, it was all about me and it was also of my own doing.  I had let the pantry run out of Homestyle Creamies.  Not this weekend or possibly any weekend for the forseeable future.  I got as many varieties as I could from Coles during my weekly shop.  Reliable sources tell me that I missed out on the lemon flavour but that's easily fixed, I will go and get a packet tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, it's going to be lots of fun.  Even if it does rain (after a week of glorious sun spent indoors under fluorescent lights with lino under foot).  I'm going to a new hairdresser where the appointments involve sitting in a boudoir inspired salon sipping bubbly and I'm going to find the new Max Brenner in Westfield Sydney and .... Mr SSG has a dinner date planned.

Take care and have a lovely evening.  I hope your team is winning its qualifying finals game tonight...

  5. SSG- I'm the same way about chick lit. I need to read some after reading anything too heavy or long. Lincoln Lawyer is good movie and Matthew M. is always easy on the eyes.

  6. Ohhhhh! Sounds like you've got a lovely afternoon and evening ahead of you - enjoy!

I'm in need of some running tops - might give the old Emerson a go too. Isn't it funny how Big W always have random prices - ie $8.96 or $24.98. Funny!

  7. SSG

I am getting a different perspective on Big W after staying here in BH. Lots of good staples.

Looking forward to what you will be reading next. I need something thrilling, interesting and easy. I wondered around the book store yesterday but all the novelslooked so gloomy and grueliing. I ended up buying more craft books instead.

  11. I saw the Emerson range in Big W and assumed it was plus sizes, but now I have the SSG endorsement, I will check out :)

I love this line: Last weekend, SSG Manor was thrown into a crisis of epic proportions.

You have your priorities right, SSG.
