Furls. Costco DIY. A Makeup Streamline.

As I’m typing this post, a deluge has started over Sydney and I’m relieved.  It’s been humid all day and we really needed the rain to clear the air and cool it.  All the windows and doors are open here at SSG Manor and the breeze is heavy with that rich yet refreshing scent of damp soil.  It’s bliss.  But then again, I’ve also had a cool shower, a lethal Costco margarita watered down with Boost Juice (oh the irony) and some wasabi peas.
It’s been another day of packing and it is all now D-O-N-E.  The council bins are full 5 days before collection day, there’s also extra bags waiting their turn and a wall of boxes in the garage as well.  There’s wardrobe space I never knew I had, bookshelves that can now be filled with books and a sense that everything I now own, I need.

I wasn’t just losing stuff, I was finding things I never knew I had.  Don’t you just love finding a shopping bag containing something new?  This little bag was from that epic trip to Honolulu’s Waikele outlets in May 2011.

Ralph Lauren furls no less.

Inside was this furl bracelet!  Furls are best for bracelets, in my opinion.  They tolerate water better than the real thing and I don’t have to worry about banging  my wrist against things by mistake.

All the action wasn’t just in the house today, I also had car adventures!  Turns out I was driving with a near flat tyre all of last week.  Which explains my poor acceleration and fuel efficiency despite the relative quiet on Sydney roads.  Guess which tyre shop was the only one near me that was open on a Sunday?

Costco’s $3 ‘slice’ of pizza.

The one at Costco.  It was touch and go but Mr SSG and I managed to get there without the tyre blowing in a spectacular fashion on the M4.  To calm our nerves after the stressful drive, we had brunch which was this ‘slice’ of supreme pizza between us.  Let’s just say it beats Domino’s hands down.  The crust is thin and light and those are abundant fresh ingredients you’re seeing.  I’m not usually a pizza person but I snuck a fair few bites.

Don’t worry, the offending tyre got changed, the others checked and I’ve got a deal where I can go back and get them all rebalanced for free in 10 000 kilometres time …. while I shop and have pizza, I suspect.

With all the space we created with the massive declutter, storage space had to be created.  Specifically for shoes.  So I picked up this lightweight shoe storage unit whilst we were there.  Armed with a cup of tea and a screw driver (over kill as it turns out), I prepared myself for a day of sore arms and Ikea-esque dramas in putting the unit together.

It actually went rather well.  All the pieces fit as they should first go.  I’ve either gotten better in my structural engineering skills or self assembly furniture is getting more user friendly.

The shoe unit as hinged ‘boxes’ so each half of the pair has its own slot.  I have now done away with all my shoe boxes, except the ‘special’ ones that Mr SSG let me keep.

The other dramatic development today was the culling of my makeup.  I’m not joking.  This is all the makeup I now own.  So many items were past their prime, barely used, duplicates and shockingly often all three.  This is now it.  The final edit.  All I need and use for day to day.

I need a lie down now.  It’s been a very cathartic weekend.  Now that all the junk’s gone, I feel as if both my life and the house are ready to receive nothing but good this year.  Some of the good may actually be shopping related, but we’ll try and keep that under some kind of control, won’t we?
