It's Easter at Coles already! On the second day of January.
I've spent today reading and lounging in various locations around the place. Mostly on the sofa at home but I did make it out to Maccas for a coffee. It's still the only place open for coffee around my neck of the woods at the moment. That racy page on my Kindle is from Beach Babylon, a book that I am enjoying immensely at the moment. In fact, I've torn through all the Babylon novels I've downloaded so far. In each book, the main character recounts his or her experiences in the 'glamour' industries of air travel, fashion, hospitality and so on. They are a bit like reading novel length 'confessions' that you often find in Marie Claire and the like. They are warts and all and apparently 100% true with only the names changed to protect the innocent and not so innocent. Perfect holiday reading in other words.
I can tell I'm going to have to drag my holiday lazy bones back into work tomorrow. I'm kidding myself that it's going to be easier for me on account of having worked in between the Christmas and New Year's breaks. But it won't be. The weather here in Sydney has suddenly turned on its summer charm. The kind of summer weather that really sets off all the riverside areas and makes us all take full advantage of daylight saving.
Mr SSG and I went on our annual Bay Run / Walk this evening. We only live a 15 minute drive from it but we just don't get down to Drummoyne as often as we should.
It started out a little hot but then that gorgeous sea breeze kicked in.

A photo of the grove of trees along part of the Bay Run, I think there are olive trees further along. |
The Bay Run is one of my favourite circuits in Sydney. It's an easy 6 - 7 km on mostly level ground and there are good paths that keep the P's (pedestrians, prams and pets) on one side and cyclists on the other. As you progress alone the path, there are signs of life everywhere. Rowing clubs, families out on the play equipment, people playing sport. It has a great sense of community.
And now we're home. The house is tidy from all the housework we've managed to get in over the last four days and I've even got flowers on the dining table.
Hope you've had a lovely New Year's long weekend. May the transition to the real world tomorrow be relatively painless for us all.

I've just returned to Perth from Sydney, I know what you mean about the weather coming good - I didnt want to leave!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers! I was at Woolies on Saturday and they had hot cross buns out already.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with reality tomorrow - hope it's not too painful. I still have two and a half weeks of holidays. yay. TDM xx
Can't believe the easter stuff are on sale nw. Kids nt even back at school yet.
ReplyDeleteMaltEaster?!? No way! I reuse to buy their impatient product! It's barely been Christmas. For shame!
ReplyDeleteLove the Bay Run! We used to live in Stanmore and made it over there as often as possible with the pram whiz zing ahead. Ah, memories! x
Can't believe it's Easter already. Well, Easter eggs.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are beautiful.

Man, I haven't even finished my Lindt Christmas stuff yet - can't handle Easter goodies!
ReplyDeleteHave you read Hospital Babylon? It's my utmost favourite - hilarious yet sad and happy.
I worked New Year's Day - never. again. I still don't want to go back tomorrow though!
the real world hit for me today - back to work but then i was back to work on boxing day - looking forward to having 17 days off next christmas, bliss!
ReplyDeletebe kind to yourself at work tomorrow and don't work too hard!

LOVE those flowers on your dining table lady. I never got to have a Malteser bunny last year so I'm on a hunt for them this year. Saw Hot Cross Buns in the supermarket on the 1st of January and I had to literally cross myself... Christmas isn't even technically over until January 6th... arghhhhh
ReplyDeleteI still want a Malteser bunny though...
xox
Those flowers are beautiful! And I can't get over how quickly they bring out the easter stuff, it's crazy! I have to admit I bought a pack of the mini chocolate hot cross buns the other day ^.^ they're my favourite easter food!

Yay for Malteaser bunnies, those things are damn expensive for what they are but really tasty :D I wish they were all year round rather than just for 3 months
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous spot for a run! I guess that offsets the lack of time between Christmas chocs and now Easter! Loving my kindle as well though perhaps my recent reading not as entertaining as the Babylon novels!
ReplyDeleteI once knew someone who was a baker for Woolworths. He never got a boxing day sleep in because he always had to be in making hot cross buns! Craziness.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are gorgeous. I'm taking the tree down tonight, and you have inspired me to keep up the decoration but with flowers.
It's crazy business regarding the hot cross buns.

It is a great spot, I just need to get out there more often this year, Sean.

I agree, Cindy. They do taste better than round malteasers, Must be the bunny ears.

I'm a huge fan of choc cross buns too, Corniaa. Wonder how long I can hold out for them this year...

January 6?!?!? Well I never.

Sam, I was debating whether to get Hospital Babylon as well. To close to home? I think I will now, after I've read the others in the series.

The year is flying by as we speak, K. At least the commercial opportunities are making it so.

The Bay Run is such a restful circuit. I plan to run it one of these days.

I know, it's very disorientating...

It's now approaching stinking hot and we are on par with regular Perth weather now.
