Time Is Flying Already. It’s Finally Summer In Sydney.

From the looks of the supermarket shelves, 2012 is flying by faster than the speed of light.

It’s Easter at Coles already!  On the second day of  January.

I’ve spent today reading and lounging in various locations around the place.  Mostly on the sofa at home but I did make it out to Maccas for a coffee.  It’s still the only place open for coffee around my neck of the woods at the moment.  That racy page on my Kindle is from Beach Babylon, a book that I am enjoying immensely at the moment.  In fact, I’ve torn through all the Babylon novels I’ve downloaded so far.  In each book, the main character recounts his or her experiences in the ‘glamour’ industries of air travel, fashion, hospitality and so on.  They are a bit like reading novel length ‘confessions’ that you often find in Marie Claire and the like.  They are warts and all and apparently 100% true with only the names changed to protect the innocent and not so innocent. Perfect holiday reading in other words.

I can tell I’m going to have to drag my holiday lazy bones back into work tomorrow.  I’m kidding myself that it’s going to be easier for me on account of having worked in between the Christmas and New Year’s breaks.  But it won’t be.  The weather here in Sydney has suddenly turned on its summer charm.  The kind of summer weather that really sets off all the riverside areas and makes us all take full advantage of daylight saving.

Mr SSG and I went on our annual Bay Run / Walk this evening.  We only live a 15 minute drive from it but we just don’t get down to Drummoyne as often as we should.

It started out a little hot but then that gorgeous sea breeze kicked in.

A photo of the grove of trees along part of the Bay Run,  I think there are olive trees further along.

The Bay Run is one of my favourite circuits in Sydney.  It’s an easy 6 – 7 km on mostly level ground and there are good paths that keep the P’s (pedestrians, prams and pets) on one side and cyclists on the other.  As you progress alone the path, there are signs of life everywhere.  Rowing clubs, families out on the play equipment, people playing sport.  It has a great sense of community.

And now we’re home.  The house is tidy from all the housework we’ve managed to get in over the last four days and I’ve even got flowers on the dining table.

Hope you’ve had a lovely New Year’s long weekend.  May the transition to the real world tomorrow be relatively painless for us all.
