Red Was the Colour of Almost Everything Today. The Third Olsen Twin.

There comes a point in late winter when the stodgy meals can get to a girl.

Another 2 litres of ketchup to get me through the second half of this pregnancy.

For me, that moment came this morning when I realised that I'd practically singlehandedly finished 2 litres of Heinz Tomato Ketchup over the last 5 months.  It's not that I've been drowning every meal in ketchup but after months of poached eggs on muffins for breakfast and various comfort dinners most nights of the week, you can see where all that ketchup went.  Thankfully I've got backup bottles of ketchup for my breakfasts but as the weather is getting a bit warmer, I've found myself in search of lighter meals for dinner.

The inspiration for tonight's dinner is this recipe for for Bun Ga Nuong, my favourite Vietnamese noodle salad featuring grilled chicken and a Nuoc Cham sauce.  The original recipe is quite involved and includes a recipe for pickled vegetables.  I only used the chicken marinade and Nuoc Cham sauce portions of the recipe and made a salad of vegetables I had on hand - lebanese cucumber, carrots and blanched snow peas.

The kitchen smelled so summery with all those cut limes on the kitchen bench.  In fact, I still have the scent of limes on my hands despite having washed up after dinner.  This will just have to tide me over until our real summer arrives here in Sydney.

It's well worth marinading the chicken overnight in a zip lock bag, as the recipe suggests.  There is a lot of preparation and knife work but assembling the meal is really very quick.  The salad is a riot of colour, tastes and textures.  You definitely need to hunt down some crushed peanuts to serve with it.

Red must be the theme colour of today's post because following on from that ketchup and the red chilli in my dinner is this snap of the new clock in the kitchen.  I'm one of those people that adore having clocks in every room of the house (except the bathroom).  I just like the idea of looking up from wherever I am in the house and knowing what time it is and being able to count off the seconds should I feel that way inclined.  I could just wear a watch around the house but that would be too much like being at work.

I picked up this bargain for $6 at a discount store.  It's going to take me a while to adjust to the sweeping (as opposed to 'ticking') second hand but I think I'm up to the challenge.  Now that accurate time keeping has been restored to the both the kitchen and the open plan dining area / home yoga studio, I have no excuse to not hold those yoga poses as long as I'm supposed to.

I'm just going to take a moment in this post to say, yet again, how much I love strawberries at the moment.  It just seems to be an especially good year for them.

My Rimowa suitcase arrived super quickly from Hunt Leather.  I placed the order Sunday afternoon and there it was, on my doorstep, early Tuesday morning.  And shipping was free.

I think we're going to have a long life together.  The largest sized multiwheel (77cm) is about the same weight as my handbag but is around 10 times the size - a win, win situation if ever I saw one.  The external pockets of the suitcase are actually subdivided and the inside of the case contains extra pockets in the detachable dividers.  Let's see how much I can squeeze into it for Sweden....  I must remember to photograph the interiors of the case in a future post for those of you that are interested.

Well, almost everyone got the message that today was a day of red.

Dress and asymmetrical jumper - Witchery, necklace - Red Phoenix Emporium, bracelet - Hermes.

For some reason, the glorious sunshine inspired me to put on this symphony of black.  I just can't seem to break free of the hold that the Olsen twins have on my wardrobe.

I'm telling you, the only way you can tell the three of us apart is if you look at me from the side or happen to notice the colour of my hair.

I don't know how I ended up being the third Olsen twin but there you have it.

  1. I must admit I have absolutely no faith whatsoever in the people who handle my luggage to treat that kind of suitcase with the respect is deserves. I frankly and freely admit I buy the cheapest luggage possible and replace it whenever I need to. Usually after Delta has ripped the wheels off my suitcase. Again. Then I save my pennies for bags I carry instead :)

The salad looks awesome. I can't wait for warmer weather. I'm hoping Singapore delivers in two weeks.

    K xx

  2. You look gorgeous!! I'm typing this from my iPad and have NO idea if it will work, still trying to get the hang of it all!

Mmmm, that salad looks delish. I just had a sandwich for lunch, the first in months. It finally feels like spring is getting close enough that I can forgo my usual hot soup or pasta. But I live in Canberra, I know it is only a matter of time before winter comes back, we always get a second blast just as you are thinking it is time to put the doona away.

  4. That is a LOT of tomato sauce!
Love the new suitcase, I hope it serves you well :-)
