Twelve to the Power of Three.

12/12/12.....

It's the last triple date of the century.  This could be the end of the world as we know it.  Or Anti-Doomsday Day if you're an optimist.  Or perhaps your wedding.  Or even your twelfth birthday (if school holidays have started already then it really is an auspicious day for you).  The Mayan calendar speaks of today's date as the beginning of a new cycle of evolution for the planet.  A time for a momentous shift in the collective consciousness of the planet and the chance for renewal and transformation on every possible level.  Personally, I'm finding it hard to go past the Mayan take on today.

All that Christmas music downloading yesterday has paid dividends.  It really is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.  Holiday season cliches flow freely from my mouth.  This is the only time of the year we're all given the freedom to embrace kitsch, tinsel and cheesy harmonies.  And you know how I like to jump on a bandwagon....

I'm pondering Christmas lunch options.  Braving the shops isn't looking as bad as it did only a week ago.  I'm looking up my trifle and rum ball recipes.  But the best thing of all is that I've dusted off the Christmas decorations and dotted them around the house.  All to the soundtrack of carols and Christmas classics from over the decades.

There are stars on the dressing table.

Santa's peaking out of my peace lilly and bearing gifts as he does so.

My snow globes and festive crystal are in the hallway.

Including this new one I just bought on behalf of Baby SSG.  Just in case he puts in an early appearance.

This is my stress ball snow globe.  Shaking it when my wireless broadband dies for the fifth time in half an hour does wonders for my nerves.

But all of that wasn't nearly enough.  So I did a quick walk through Coles and the discount shops up the road for more supplies.  I returned home with a fair bit of loot for under $30.

Including this 45cm tall LED lit Christmas tree.

It's battery operated and I'm loving it so much I've left it on 24/7 since I put it up.  It's going to be a before bed ritual watching it glow in the darkness before going to bed each night from now until Christmas Day.

In other news, I finally got my hands on some Lamington Style ice cream from Coles.  Chocolate, coconut and raspberry in the one ice cream?  How could this go wrong.  I had a scoop last night and while it's not pretty to look at (the ice cream has a brown grey cast to it) it does have a lamington taste with heaps of desiccated coconut blended into it.  I was a bit disappointed that there weren't any sponge cake pieces or streaks of raspberry in my scoop.  It would have been poor form to scoop through the whole tub to find them....  Anyway, the ice cream is on special for $5 a carton at the moment and it's the first flavour to sell out each day.

This is my #latergram photo from Monday.  I was there at the newstand for The Royal Baby issues of the glossips.  As expected, no hypothesis was left possibly proven and disproven at the same time.

Dinner last night went all 80s retro with apricot chicken.

All the usual suspects were involved.  For the record, I'm a dried apricot fan as opposed to tinned.  The dried fruit seems to cope with baking better.

I did break with tradition and use this Clive of India Madras curry powder instead of Keen's.  It was a wise move because last night's batch of apricot chicken was the yummiest to come out of the SSG Manor test kitchen since well, forever.  The Madras curry powder seems to give apricot chicken a more smooth and rich curry flavour than Keen's did.  I added about a tablespoon of curry powder.

With one last look at the tree, it's time for me to go.  I have a feeling that my tree decorations will be a work in progress.  You can never have too much bling on a tree, I reckon.
