Destination North Sydney.


It was just the weather for running errands today.  All those clouds made that outdoor to indoor sunglass flip you need to do between buildings on sunnier days a non issue.  It also wasn’t too cold or wet either so no umbrellas or jackets needed to be manipulated  along the way either.
I was a bit heavy handed with the tapping and going today, though.  I had to catch the bus to the car mechanics so they could put my car key into a car key reader to tell them when my car was next due for service.  Apparently knowing your mileage, car registration and the model of you car isn’t enough…  Anyway, it’s all sorted out and the car is booked in.

Then it was onto a train so that this girl could re-read ‘The Girl on the Train’ … on the train.  I’ve been a bit lazy with regards to reading over the last few weeks and am trying to get back into it by re-reading some old favourites while I gather inspiration for newer works to download for my Kindle.  I’d love it if you had any suggestions for you to perhaps leave a comment later, thank you!

Crossed the bridge as I read to meet my accountant.  It was a very productive hour (!!) and I have game plan and lots of things to think about for the coming financial year and beyond.  I’d been putting it off for so long and I’m so relieved it’s done now.  I’m pretty good at sticking to plans once they’re made for me, I just need them to be made in the first place.

I celebrated with an early lunch at the best  banh mi place I’ve found this year, if not since I moved to Sydney.  It’s a takeaway style place called Rolls Vietnam on Miller Street and their approach to banh mi is what Subway’s should be to their rolls (you can even get foot long banh mi if you want but the regular half baguettes are very filling).  I ordered the classic pork roll ($6.90) and it was perfect.  You could really taste the pate, the mayo was on the just right side of generous and the seasoning was perfect.  I’m already hatching plans to make a fortnightly train ride over to North Sydney a thing in my life.

I take my hat off to those of you who have to work in North Sydney.  The noise is ridiculous.  Every second office tower is being noisily renovated (it’s not even rebuilding, it’s jack hammering exisiting walls and fixtures) and the buses that roar down the main roads only add to the headache inducing cacophony.

No wonder there’s cafes and eateries tucked away on the ground floor of every office block and also in between them.  Walking around the business district reminded me a bit of the business districts of London and New York.  I felt a bit like Nigella herself bouncing along the streets and ducking into eateries and shops as I went.  Wish my hair was as good as hers, though.

And no wonder some of the best shops are to be found at the end of underground walkways that take you below the roars and shudders of the street.  I found these Tahitian limes at the greengrocer at the Greenwood shops on the way back to the train station.  They look amazing and I can’t wait to use them in my next salad dressing.  I wonder what makes limes from Tahiti so special?

I made a quick pit stop on the way home to pick up a few treats for a slightly sick Preschooler SSG at home.

Isn’t an Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecake the thing any responsible mother would think to bring home for their sick little one?  Look at all the dairy and citrus that each batch of cheesecake requires?  There’s a new product called cheesecake rusks on the menu too so I bought some of those to try as well.  Just as well I did my treats shopping in the city because I got home to find out that the super duper cold pressed juice bar that sells Preschooler SSG’s favourite spendy organic juice ran out of his favourite flavour.  I’m normally a bit of a juice cynic but there’s something about that juice that always perks him up.

I’m a Singapore girl through and through.  I got dressed up to buy cheesecake in the city and took a selfie at the shops as I did so…
