Friday Drinks #5: The Last and Most Eclectic One Before Christmas Edition.

We’re here at last.  The last Friday before Christmas.  The side of my fridge is almost bare now.  It used to house all the tickets and print outs for all the Christmas activities Preschooler SSG and I had this month but our last outing was yesterday so now all that remains are a few lonely magnets and boring stuff like care instructions for the fridge.  Not that I’ve actually looked at the instructions recently.  If you have a spendy fridge that’s only a year old, doesn’t it just look after itself for a decade or so before us humans have to intervene?

Onwards and upwards, though.  I have new pieces of paper to give those bored fridge magnets of mine something to do. In honour mum and dad flying in tonight, I have a selection of menus from our local Chinese restaurants for their perusal.  The whole house hold is in a state of high doh (love me a good Irish figurative expression, many thanks Maeve et al) in anticipation of mum and dad’s arrival.  The house is semi spotless, back up teabags and peanut butter have been purchased and all that remains is for us to do the linen tonight.

I’ve had my last rendezvous with the hairdresser for the year as well.  Love how their tree was suitably decorated with hair product samples instead of baubles.
As usual, the range of magazines on offer was superior.  I think this was InStyle and I spent many happy minutes gaining inspiration for my mythical mood board for the coming season.

The photo inspired me to wear my ChicWish print skirt to work today.  I  love this print actually, it’s very Kate Spade.
To match my Kate pouch.

Unfortunately, the mood board inspiration hasn’t just inspired creativity with what I already own, it’s also spawned the ‘need’ for a cross body bag.  I think I need Gucci’s Soho Disco in black.

Or the newer version from the Marmont collection?  A little bag like this would be so convenient for those days that I’m out and about with Preschooler SSG.  By keeping my valuables in a small bag like these close to my body, my hands would then be free to shepherd and assist, right?  Right. Sigh.  Watch this space….

This quartet of photos caught my eye based on its improbable factor.  How do those tops even stay in place to pose let alone while one walks around town?

I’ve always had a weakness for the polka dot.  With a large white fake flower at the neck and crazy hair?  I already own that particular hair style so the flower really wouldn’t be that much of a stretch.

Preschooler SSG and I (and Purple the monkey) set out for the Opera House yesterday for a show and some lunch.

Hungry Jack’s have new thick cut chips on the menu right now and they’re a vast improvement on their French fries.  The chips even come chicken salted.  No wonder that sea gull was eyeing them off.

‘Room On the Broom’ was great fun to watch. We haven’t read the book yet but will hopefully get around to it soon.

The harbour was looking spectacular, as it always does.  A Royal Caribbean cruise ship was docked there for the day and made an impressive addition to the skyline.

It’s Christmas, so we got the gummie bear option over our scoop of ice cream.

A classic pork banh mi eaten on a bench outside on a summer’s day in the city.

What more could you ask for?

Because we’d had our ice cream quota already for the day, we could only look on at this cream flower stall in awe.

I did have a video from the stall in Chatswood but I couldn’t load it properly here.  This clip is from YouTube.

Then we stopped in at the Royce chocolate store where Preschooler SSG convinced me that his grandparents would love to have a box of the Royce chocolate coated potato chips and I decided that a tray of Nama Chocolate would be perfect to bring in for morning tea at work today.  This was the first time I’ve tried this champagne flavour and it is sublime.  You might remember that Lindt recently released a champagne flavoured Lindor ball.  Well, the Royce Nama version is next level.  Everyone at work really enjoyed their squares of Nama.

Last topic for today’s even more eclectic than usual Friday Drinks post.  Typewriters.

I was listening to the news the other night when a segment was broadcast about the role of typewriters in Myanmar. While typewriters aren’t even manufactured or sold in many parts of the world now, manual typewriters are still the backbone of commerce and industry in Myanmar.  They are portable, don’t require electricity to run and in a country that has spent most of the last few decades blighted by civil unrest and iron fisted rule under a military junta, many civilians remain suspicious of things like the internet which is prone to being tapped by the government.

Everyone goes to their local typist in Myanmar.  Typists document everything from legal documents to forms that lay people need to get completed.  However, as democracy and modernization has arrived to the country, so too have computers and the internet.  Typists are suddenly finding it a struggle to survive and the number of repairers of their machines have also fallen dramatically as new technology finds mainstream acceptance.

Do you remember the sound of typewriters?  When was the last time you used one?  I think I was about 15 and it was in business education class at school.

In case I’m not back on the blog in time, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas.  Whatever you may be doing and whomever you may be spending it with, may it be fun and relaxing!

See you on the other side!
