Lovin’ Life 5/1/2017: The Five Dollar Challenge and Other Things.

It’s only day one post staycation and it’s as if I never even went had those days off.  While it’s been good to hit the ground running and I know that these crazy days will soon make way for more civilized working days, it’s still been a rude shock after the blocks of leisurely days off I’ve had between work days over the last few weeks.

Deep breaths and time to pull on those big girl pants.  Or something like that.  I have a job I love and money in the bank.  Work does leave me drained some days but it’s also rewarding and even fun working with the people that I do.  It just doesn’t make for many pretty pictures.  So without further ado, let me devote the rest of this post to recent pretty pictures from the staycation that only ended yesterday.

I found a new cafe just outside of the main hub at Bondi Junction yesterday.  Brew Collective is a light and airy little space that brings a bit of the Balmain aesthetic across the bridge and over to the east.

Maxi – Metallicus, necklace – Hermes.
After spending most of my break dressed in variations of the denim shorts and a monochrome T shirt theme, I threw caution to the wind with this black Metalicus maxi dress which was accessorized by the aptly named ‘Deva’ horn and laquer necklace from my good friends at the house of H.
A moment or two of nostalgia was experienced by way of my latest Bonds Online order.  I had placed an order of baby essentials for a dear friend’s baby gift and removing all those impossibly tiny onesies and singlets from their hangers before folding them up for wrapping brought back all sorts of happy memories of being firstly a naive and super keen and super organized first time mum to be and then a tired, foggy brained actual first time mum.  The cuddles my own onesie collection featured in, the endless loads of washing they found themselves in, the fun times I had trying to zip and button them while a very active baby was in them….  The days were so long but the years so short.
I’m also a pragmatist.  How could I not order myself a(nother) classic black and white striped T to qualify for free shipping on my order?
I know I’ve said previously that I’m not a new year resolution kind of person but that was before a friend inspired me by sharing her experience of the $5 challenge on Facebook recently.  The challenge is deceptively simple.  Over a fixed time period, simply collect every $5 bill that comes your way.  Resist the urge to count them up until the very end of your challenge.  At the end, simply deposit your bills into a savings account and possibly start all over again.  I wonder if I will find it as effortless as others have found for themselves.  Aren’t $5 notes a bit hard not to miss?  Not as much as $10 or $20 perhaps but still a significant amount to sock away on a daily basis.
Only time will tell.

The good times are still rolling over at SSG Manor 2.0. Both my aunties have now arrived safely so along with my mum, the three sisters have been catching up with late night chats and over mugs of tea.  They’ve also discovered that you can reheat slices of hot cross bun in a jaffle press.  It’s less of a fire hazard than trying to relocate the same bits of bun that have a high chance of getting lost in the grip of a standard toaster’s slots.
Are you joining the $5 challenge?
Have you toasted anything interesting in a jaffle press recently?
