Lovin’ Life 9/3/2017: Sort of MIA. Em and Harley and Christian. Food Lately.

It feels like I’ve been missing in action this past week.  Which actually doesn’t make sense because I’ve not been away and not much was especially different about my routine over the last few days.  But I do have a cold and..

I Had To Work On Tuesday.  Full timers or those of you who normally work a run of consecutive days, I don’t know how you do it or how I ever did it for as long as I did.  I had to rearrange my days this week which meant that I was at work on what has normally been my day off for the last 3 years.  The promise of a kind of ‘mid week weekend’ with Wednesday and Thursday off this week did little to ease the fatigue.  It must be old age setting in early.  Or that getting stuck into a routine and refusing to budge that I love doing (but am trying to change).

SS Manor’s nod to Mardi Gras weekend comes to you via this My Little Pony that Preschooler SSG scored from a Happy Meal.
My other favourite Mardi Gras inspired moment of the week was Em Rusciano and Bob Downe’s duet of ‘Don’t You Want Me’.  Em and Harley’s breakfast radio who on 2DAYFM is one of the highlights of my morning commute.  It’s not just them I love, it’s their side kick Christian Hull aka Trish too…
Thanks, Trish for breaking down and decoding life as a school mum for me.

I revisited The Burpee this week and they were actually fun.  Possibly because I only had to one at a time between sets of other exercises…  But still, points for trying.

I’ve also faced facts and realised that I’ll never in a million years remember my favourite slow cooker recipe (Lamb Obsession) despite it being so simple.  So I’ve just printed it out and put it through the laminator for safe keeping.

It’s been an exciting (relatively speaking) week in food for SSG Manor 2.0.  I made Chinese Spaghetti Bolognese and gave myself a huge pat on the back for serving Preschooler SSG a ‘noodle’ dinner that for once didn’t contain a bag of highly processed instant noodles.  We both really enjoyed this Chinese take on pasta.  There’s more bite and firmness to pasta than most noodles and the texture worked well with the thicker mince based sauce.  The flavour was very authentic too.  Be warned though that it can get a bit salty if using regular chicken stock.

I even remembered to garnish with chilli flakes rather than Parmesan.
It’s been salmon week here and the first recipe I made was Nagi’s Baked Parmesan Crusted Salmon.  If you love a tasty crust on your baked fish, this is a recipe you must try.  The layer of dijon mustard under the crumb is a great way of getting them to stick and also adds a lovely flavour to the salmon.

I didn’t make the sauce that goes with the fish but made potato wedges instead.

How could I have eaten frozen wedges for so long when these wedges are just as easy to prepare?

How’s your week been?

Cooked anything interesting for dinner?
