Lovin' Life 1/6/2017: Winter Begins.

While today is the first official day of winter, the weather actually got the memo early this year.  There's been a decided chill to the air all week that's been an all day affair rather than the gone by mid morning coolness that was the case last week.

I've spent the week cocooned in layers of sweaters, scarves, quilted jackets and ... jeggings.  I found this pair at the Ralph Lauren outlet in San Marcos on my most recent trip for the ridiculous price of $50.  They're ankle length in a lovely dark denim wash but best of all, the waistband is button and zipper free.  They're so comfortable they're basically maternity jeans for the post, post partum woman.

I've been so diligent with my $5 challenge that I've already filled my special collection jar.  The lovely young bank teller had to count them all by hand because they were too crumpled to put through the counter.  A tip for young players like myself is to use a zip lock bag so that the notes can be kept flat and hence more friendly for your local bank's bill counter.

An early contender for my favourite foods of winter is udon soup with a pair of tempura prawns.  I'm sure I'll be inhaling my winter staple soups soon enough (from the recipes of Julie Goodwin and the Olivers) but at the moment?  It's all about udon.

Have you given in and counted your tally from the $5 challenge yet?

Do you love a good jegging?

  1. I do love a jegging, I discovered them for something like $11 at Harris Scarfe recently. :)

  2. I am very much pre, pre partum and I would be all over those jeggings! I am working on finding a pair long enough. I've also decided that I can't wait for my coat to arrive (in the boxes we shipped from the UK), because it's freeeeezing. I am hitting the shops this weekend. Any coat shop recommendations?

  3. It's actually cool here in Bris-Vegas today, for the first day of winter - hooray! Oh and I think I need a pair of those jeans, I can so identify with what you said about them being jeans for the post, post partum woman LOL.

  4. Oh it's great you filled a jar already with the $5 challenge SSG! Not bad for just half a year! :) I'll be interested to see how you go by the end of the year. I don't use cash much so I don't think I'd achieve a lot with it!

  5. Well done on your $5 challenge. Of course I look back on stuff I 'could' have done in hindsight....

It's finally winter here in Qld today. In fact I had to put my doona on when I went to bed last night. I've been sleeping with just a sheet and pulling the doona up during the night. And it was even a chilly 13C here this morning. I love winter though and am excited by winter PJs and layers!

  7. I know that I've said it before, but I really MUST try the $5 challenge. I also MUST buy a new moneybox for all the coin that is lying around the house. #TeamLovinLife

  8. I am definitely cocooned in layers today in Canberra. Thermal singlet, long sleeve tee, sweater and leather jacket. Although when I was in your world on Tuesday I had to shed, shed, shed!! I guess my body is already adjusting to the extreme cold of Canberra that Sydney feels positively balmy! #teamlovinlife

  9. It certainly has become chilly in the past week around here. I do love the $5 challenge. I did it last year and has $450 at Christmas, which was a fabulous help for the festive season. I'm doing it again, but this time I have a large tin with a slot in the top. It can't be opened without a can opener, so there's no way I can dip into it. While I have to softly fold the notes to get through the slot, they fan out inside the tin and come out relatively flat :) #TeamLovinLife

  10. Winter arrived in Brisbane would you believe SSG. Although it really isn't that bad. Your $5 challenge sounds a great way to save and the soup looks interesting too. Not a bad week at all really. Enjoy your weekend.
