Two thirds of the way through winter has got to be the sweet spot of the season. There's been plenty of time to cocoon, comfort eat and layer your clothing excessively. Around now, the days begin to get that little bit longer, the sun (when it does shine) has a tantalizing bit of warmth to its rays and it's a little easier to get proactive about that summer body. Story for another day, finding the motivation to coax that summer body out of hibernation...
Another surprising thing I looked forward to this winter was that first proper attack on the back yard since the last leaves of autumn got swept and raked all those weeks ago. We had some pretty magnificent weather here over the weekend. A bit of that warm sun and extra daylight in the afternoon I was talking about earlier.
Guess what I did with that weather? Turned up ABC Jazz really loud in the backyard and tidied up. I raked, swept, mowed and then kicked back with a cuppa as I listened to the music and wondered whether turning the radio up loud in the backyard on a Saturday afternoon broke some kind of local council noise limit law. But I didn't wonder for that long. It was the ABC after all. And the weather so glorious that you'd have to be a bit desperate to ring the council after hours to complain about something. You can never have an ABC station up too loud in this (or any) neighbourhood.
Do you surprise yourself about just how much you enjoy doing a bit of gardening this time of the year?

This is the best time to be in the garden. I think it's that promise of Spring that's in the air... #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteI don't feel as if we've had much of a winter. I think here (in Qld) we've had a few cold mornings but I've not had to wear any really heavy coats or anything and it feels as it's ending too soon.
ReplyDeleteI should say though that I love everything about winter - flannelette PJs and hoodies and staying in bed curled up under my doona! #teamlovinlife
Sounds like a good productive afternoon! Winter sunshine is blissful!

So true about this time of year. It is still light after 5 pm and there has been a sense of Spring just being around the corner. It does beg us to get outside and I am able to do that more as my leg is healing and it is great!
ReplyDeleteI need to do a lot of gardening this weekend... not really my thing haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a gardener at all but I do like to get out on our front patio and give it a clean and spruce up. I'm now thinking about a bit of decluttering and spring cleaning inside the house. The approaching change of season tends to get me motivated. #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteSometimes music really gets you in the 'clean up' mood doesn't SSG and it does the soul good to spend some time in the backyard in the sunshine and tidying up. Hope you included some relaxing time as well. Have a lovely week. xx

I love gardening at this time of year. In summer it gets far too hot for me to handle here is Brisbane. I love the warmth of the sun in winter but I'm not looking forward to summer sun. It's just become way too harsh in Brisbane. Give me autumn, spring and winter anytime but summer *ugh* - I go into survival mode. Too hot and humid! #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't feel like it's two thirds of the way through Winter - it had such a slow start in WA and now it seems to have finally set in properly with rain and wind and low temps - no sitting in the sunshine in my backyard this week!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy gardening when I get stuck into it. The problem is I am not very regular and get disappointed when things die. Who knew they need constant looking after!
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING our backyard at the moment. We finally got ours fixed after years of headaches. The next step is garden beds for vegies, hopefully this weekend. Yay!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe weather sure is warming up quickly! Love the music while you're gardening idea :) #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteOnce you start something in the garden it's very hard to stop isn't it SSG?! It's a wonderful way to spend a slightly warmer winter's day. I see you also got a load of washing out onto the airer, and good on you for rewarding yourself with a lovely cuppa!
