Life This Week 5/3/2018: Share Your Snaps.

I’ve got a pretty eclectic collection of snaps to share this week.  Nothing pretty, glamorous or terribly exciting but they’re all indicative of life right now.
Perhaps the biggest win of the week was finally having simultaneous functioning ASDL and landline phones.  In 2018.  In metropolitan Sydney.  I’m extremely grateful to my Telstra technician for going above and beyond in his persistence in locating the phone line and repairing its short circuit.

I’m relieved that my jittery iPhone camera can still take mostly focused photos despite its nerves.  I’m holding out replacing my phone for as long as I can.  Hoping I can make it until the next iPhone incarnations are announced at which time I’ll be joining the masses and placing my order the moment the waiting list opens.

It really was only a month or so ago since I went away to LA.  It feels like I’ve been back at work and into my mum routine since forever.  This is my tin of ‘Campbell’s crayons’ in an Andy Warhol tin that I bought from The Broad.  Each crayon inside has a suitably pop art name for its particular shade.

Home learning for kinder has begun and you could feel the tension level rise at pick up those first few days the folders came home in backpacks.  The readers have been going well and I’ve found some Sight Word PowerPoints to help make their revision a bit more exciting.  The computer-based component has needed no such inducement because the activities are all game based with lots of colour, music and movement.

The irony of my being asked to teach another person how to write…

I made oven baked fish and chips using a Matt Moran recipe.  I probably didn’t use the best fish fillets but they did look lovely coming out of the oven.  The crumbs were only okay though.  I’ll be going back to Nagi from Recipe Tin Eat’s recipe next time.

This was a recent winning at school mum life moment.  I arrived early for pick up and found a shady place to park a mere 2 minutes from the school gates (a complicated double gated walkway that’s astroturfed and also a little hidden at street level).  If sitting in my car for a few minutes with nothing but my thoughts and the radio for company safe in the knowledge that I’d made it isn’t serenity than I don’t know what is.

On that same hot day, I even remembered my supply of after-school snacks for Master SSG and his bestie.  The mini Calypos even managed to stay frozen in the cooler bag. They’re always a hit on PE day.

I joined Black Box recently and am eagerly awaiting my first Black Box of products.  The company specializes in home-based market research and it’s free to join. Part of the joining up process requires you to complete a demographic type survey which enables the team to match you with upcoming campaigns.  You are then notified by email if you are on the short list for a box and then later if you made the cut.  All you need to do then is wait patiently for your box, try your stuff and then complete an online survey.  I’ll let you now how it goes.
