Lovin’ Life 1/3/2018: Back Doing Laps.

This week, I’m loving the fact that I’ve recommitted to my fortnightly lap session at my favourite aquatic centre.  How ironic that it’s taken me until the start of autumn to get back into it.

I love that feeling of weightlessness and power in the water as I churn through my laps.  There’s no other way to describe the way I swim.  It’s a churn and I chop through the water rather than slice through it with my arms.

Staring down at that black tiled line as I do my freestyle gives me clarity as I work through my thoughts and to do list in my head.  Some may count their strokes with each lap or keep an eye on the timer up high on the wall but I pass my time thinking as I swim.

And then there’s that feeling as you haul yourself out of the water.  That pleasing sensation of knowing you’ve worked your muscles, joints and cardiovascular system hard but feeling also a relaxing of your body because all that cardio took place in a large body of water.

I’m looking forward to my autumn and winter of swimming this year and I fully intend to honour my fortnightly commitment right through to next summer.

Are you a lap swimmer?  Do you find yourself swimming mainly in one season over another?
