Lovin’ Life 3/5/2018: Heel Lock Laces.

Since I made that idle commitment to start training for the Sydney City to Surf on the weekend, I’ve made a couple of lifestyle choices that I’m hoping will pay dividends come race day.
I’ve added protein balls to my diet.  These PB and Cacao balls by Tom & Luke are pretty tasty, actually.  $2.50 for a half dozen at Woolworths.
While I haven’t actually tried them out before a run, I did eat them during my marathon session at the hairdresser today.  And I wasn’t even hangry at the two hour mark.  This bodes well for race day.
The second race preparation change I’ve made to my life is to break in my new running shoes.
While I’m loving my new ASICS trainers, they feel pretty loose around the heel.  Which isn’t ideal on hill runs.  Enter the heel lock way of lacing up.  I have written about heel lock lacing before but something as life changing as this deserves to be written about multiple times.
I still love my Hickies laceless shoe fasteners but the laces on these Kayanos are so pretty (and long) that it was quicker and just as effective to simply re tie the laces.
This video explains it all.

My heel laced running shoes proved to be so comfortable this week that I was more than happy to walk in them after a session on Heartbreak Hill and get coffee and breakfast.

Do you use those ‘spare holes’ on your running shoes or trainers?
